This fall, try pairing a fun and flirty silk dress, like this one from Rebecca Taylor, Here with a pair of ankle boots like these from Sam Edelman, Here. It is a good juxtaposition between feminine/soft and hard. A lot of girls are unsure about how to wear this trend a) what should the skirt/dress length be to pair with ankle boots b) what kind of boots should you wear with a shorter dress vs. a mid-length? Common sense tells us that we do not want to shorten our legs, but lengthen them; however, in the fall boots prevail over sandals and adjustments should be made.
Quick Styling Lesson on Pairing Boots with Dresses/Skirts:
Number “One”: LENGTH of Skirt or Dress- Pair Ankle Boots with Dresses that fall Mid-Thigh (as I am wearing above). Knee-length skirts/dresses will only shorten your legs = No Thanks!!! The style of the dress is not as important as the length.
Number “Two”: HEIGHT of Boot- General “Rule of Thumb”- the Higher the Boot, the Shorter The Skirt (you can always wear tights); stiletto heel boots tend to lengthen your legs, as well. Wear flat boots with skirts that fall mid-thigh or higher. There are so many great tights out there right now to add pizzaz – see Here, Here, or Here.
Number “Three”: STYLE of Boot- Solid boots look best with patterned dresses/skirts and boots with embellishments look best with a Solid Print dress/skirt. Styling is all about balance and not creating a power struggle between pieces. Just decide what you want to let shine (dress or boots) and go from there. Have a Fabulous Week!
